Just a reminder, The USCG issues three types of decals. One decal (COI) is for passenger carrying vessels that carry more that 6 passengers, those inspections can last a few days or more. A second decal (UPV) is for vessels that carry 6 or less passengers, these examinations last a couple of hours. A third decal (CFV) is for commercial fishing vessels. Both the UPV and the CFV Examinations are 2 year voluntary dockside exams, To carry more than 6 passengers, you must have a mandatury USCG Inspection annually. The purpose of these examinations or inspections is to help the vessel operators stay in compliance with Federal Regulations.
